除 非 是 看 見 紀 念 品 店 裏 售 有 龍 飛 鳳 舞 的 七 彩 「 彼 得 」 、 「 保 羅 」 和 「 瑪 莉 」 卡 片 便 心 花 怒 放 ， 能 便 宜 地 一 嚐 擁 有 疑 似 中 文 名 的 感 覺 的 過 路 遊 客 ， 有 心 在 華 人 社 會 生 活 工 作 的 外 國 人 ， 不 少 都 喜 歡 認 真 地 為 自 己 起 中 文 名 。 起 名 從 來 是 學 問 ， 形 、 聲 、 義 ， 缺 一 不 可 ， 尤 其 是 位 高 權 重 的 人 物 。 能 未 見 其 人 ， 先 聞 其 名 ， 能 令 人 產 生 期 望 ， 未 「 埋 位 」 先 贏 陣 勢 。 在 歷 任 前 港 督 中 ， 就 有 （ 金 ） 文 泰 、 （ 葛 ） 量 洪 、 （ 羅 ） 富 國 、 （ 柏 ） 立 基 、 （ 麥 ） 理 浩 、 （ 尤 ） 德 ， 魏 德 巍 在 上 任 前 ， 還 要 先 改 名 為 （ 衞 ） 奕 信 ， 把 「 鬼 」 字 通 通 剔 走 ， 在 （ 彭 ） 定 康 飲 涼 茶 吃 蛋 撻 前 ， 可 曾 記 起 他 曾 經 叫 做 柏 藤 ？
前 洋 人 高 官 中 ， 亦 有 （ 鍾 ） 逸 傑 、 （ 彭 ） 勵 治 、 （ 羅 ） 弼 時 、 （ 何 ） 伯 勵 、 唐 明 治 、 （ 馬 ） 富 善 ， 大 氣 得 很 。 外 資 大 班 們 ， 曾 經 出 現 （ 沈 ） 弼 、 （ 浦 ） 偉 士 、 （ 艾 ） 爾 敦 ， 航 空 龍 頭 話 事 人 就 曾 見 （ 何 ） 禮 泰 、 （ 唐 ） 寶 麟 和 （ 湯 ） 彥 麟 ， 穩 重 中 見 謙 厚 ， 為 政 治 人 物 外 ， 洋 人 中 文 名 字 的 另 一 支 派 。 曾 聽 一 洋 人 的 中 國 友 好 ， 為 他 起 了 （ 布 ） 君 廷 一 名 ， 將 本 來 英 文 名 的 姓 氏 和 名 字 混 合 ， 取 其 音 義 而 成 ， 尚 算 不 俗 之 選 ， 豈 料 另 一 為 中 國 友 好 笑 嫌 此 名 字 像 馬 名 ， 遂 打 消 了 洋 人 用 中 文 名 行 走 香 港 的 念 頭 。 最 近 收 到 另 一 為 洋 人 的 卡 片 ， 印 上 了 令 我 忍 俊 不 禁 的 中 文 名 字 ： 雷 定 ， 不 看 他 的 金 髮 碧 眼 的 形 相 ， 還 以 為 是 潮 汕 人 士 ！

Yes, like the visual, phonetic and conceptual Features or Characteristics as expected of a good Trademark.
Talking of Translation and Transliteration of non-chinese Names of Persons into chinese ones, and on a related Matter, i cannot help saying i consider the chinese Transliteration of the Name of the Actor Hugh Jackman (of "Australia" Fame) as "曉治積曼" very awkward. Oh, where on Earth does the chinese Character "治" lie in the Pronunciation of "Hugh"? I think "Hugh" must have been taken to sound like "huge".
Whilst and where the Name "Hugh" must have been erroneously taken to read "huge", and was consequently transliterated into "曉治", i fail to understand however why the "stupid and clumsy" "治" Syllable (sorry, i don't mean to be rude) is absent in the chinese Transliteration of Hugh Grant's first Name "Hugh". On the other Hand, likewise as in the Case of Hugh Jackman, the Name of that mysterious Entertainment Magnate Howard Hughes is transliterated into
"侯活曉治", which in my View is incorrect for a similar Reason.
"魏德巍":
To me this Name looks and sounds "towering" (so that anybody, in particular, a Man who stands close to a Man bearing such a Name would feel being dwarfed by him!), "ghostly" (because of the constituent Word "鬼" that is used repeatedly; i do not regard this Remark as insulting), symbolic of Righteousness, highly intellectual, and like a Name that is well-suited for a Swordsman, someone who has acquired Mastery of martial Arts, someone who wanders in all Corners of the World, someone who "walks tall" ......
To summarise, i take the Name as "extraordinary" and "not a usual" Name.
"麥理浩":
It was said in the Aftermath of the devastating torrential Downpour that occurred in Hong Kong in 1972 (during his Governorship) ----- resulting in extensive Landslides to cause Hundreds of Deaths and Casualties ----- that the Character "理" as in his chinese Name was a Transformation from the Character "埋" so the Catastrophe was inevitable. Of Course, this was groundless and mere Superstition.
