比利懷德 1950年的作品《日落大道》，道盡荷里活默片時代女星 Norma Desmond，因有聲電影時代的來臨，從萬人迷變成沉溺於昔日光輝古怪女人的故事。全片對夢工場的深刻諷刺和批判，還有電影語言的精巧運用，若不是由擁 有真實體驗的女星擔綱主打，亦不能成為經典。身高只得四呎多的 Gloria Swanson，演繹這個帶有半自傳式意味的角色時，其螢幕上的風度，看來好像有五呎十吋高。默片時代的明星，用面孔來傳情達意，不靠語言，沒有聲調，就 有本事令觀眾若癡若狂。有異於電影的虛構角色和其他默片明星的際遇，事實上 Swanson能夠安然過渡到有聲電影時代。她於《日落大道》的表現，就是一場面孔身段聲音全能量演出的示範作。將驕傲、脆弱、狂亂、天真又可憫的一代 Diva盛衰記，鮮活地呈現。
Swanson早已作古。直至九十年代，音樂劇版本才正式上演。城西版的主角是 Elaine Paige，聲有餘而演不足。百老匯版找來《孽緣》中令人不寒而慄的 Glenn Close擔演， Norma上身的演繹，足以彌補稍遜的歌聲。
角色其中一名句是：「 I am big! It's the picture that got small.」 Diva總比生命還大。

The first Movie i ever saw from Billy Wilder's extensive Filmography is the b/w "The Apartment", which stars Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. Wilder was like a Jack-of-all-trades in that Movie in that not only did he direct it, he also wrote the Screenplay and was also Producer. One of his many famous Works at later Days is "Irma la Douce" (he took his "three Roles", as usual), which again stars Lemmon and MacLaine (seems to me the three Collaborators made a 鐵三角, an invincible and incomparable Trio, a newer Rendition of "The Three Musketeers"). I have seen that Paris-based Film twice on Cable TV (but only a small Portion of it each Time).
Another Piece of his sensational Works is "Some Like It Hot" with Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis playing the leading Roles, with of Course the glamorous, sexy, seductive, blonde Marilyn Monroe.
Talking of Billy Wilder ----- who was jewish ----- i can't help making a Reference to other jewish or partially jewish Celebrities in the Movie World and thinking that the List seems incomplete without these People:
Paul Newman, Dustin Hoffman, Sydney Pollack, James Caan, Tony Curtis, Billy Crystal, Ben Stiller, Kirk Douglas (and his Son, Michael Douglas, naturally), Jeff Goldblum, Harrison Ford, Woody Allen, Sarah Jessica Parker, Edward G. Robinson, Barbra Streisand, Adam Sandler, Jake Gyllenhaal, Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Jerry Seinfeld, Elvis Presley (even the Rock King is said to have had jewish Blood flowing in his Veins according to a Source i know of), and so forth.
